Moving House or Office

Nowadays an increasing number of us are opting to move ourselves rather than hiring a moving company. As you can imagine this has certain advantages and disadvantages. You'll almost certainly save money, but your move may take more time and effort. You'll also have to pick up certain skills to get it right and to avoid typical self-removal problems such as inefficient packing of your vehicle and doing yourself physical injury!

Make your booking well in advance

To ensure the best availability for your Ute, Van or Truck rental, pick up date and time, make your booking enquiry with Handy Rentals as far in advance of your move date as possible.

Select the right vehicle

Visit our Vehicles page to select the correct Ute, Van or Truck to complete the entire job in one or two trips and avoid extra time, mileage charges and fuel usage.
Remember, you are driving a different vehicle. Visit our Ensuring a Safe Trip page for more information.

Preparations

When moving yourself you need to spend sometime thinking about the preparations required for your move. You need to make a compromise between filling the vehicle sensibly, protecting your goods and not over-filling or under-filling the vehicle.

Boxes

Buy quality boxes and packaging supplies. Don't pack your valuable possessions in used, dirty boxes. Invest some of the savings from doing the job yourself into doing the job right. Visit your local Handy Rentals  location for high-quality boxes and packaging supplies.

Recruit moving help

Give friends and family plenty of advance notice prior to moving day. Plan and organize your move ahead of time and have everything packed and ready to load before helpers arrive. And keep your moving crew happy with snacks and refreshments.

Vehicle Insurance

Standard accident insurance is covered in the Hire Agreement. Vehicles are covered by full comprehensive insurance with an excess payable. This excess may be reduced with an additional payment. Call your agent to verify your coverage for the contents of the vehicle, and get more information on optional protection plans and waivers offered by your insurance company.
